Slow-Cooked Manbaby Savory Beans with Ham
Makes: 6 to 8 servings Cooking Method: Slow Cooker
1 package (16 ounces) dried great northern beans
2 smoked ham hocks (about ½ pound each)
2 cups water
1 medium onion, chopped
2 teaspoons garlic powder, divided
2 teaspoons onion powder, divided
1 cup Manbaby Sauce (Original Honey Smoke Savory Sauce)
¾ cup packed brown sugar
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce (optional, for heat)
Directions
Step 1: Prepare the Beans
Rinse and sort the beans, discarding any debris.
Soak the beans according to the package directions. Drain and rinse the beans, discarding the soaking liquid.
Step 2: Cook the Beans and Ham Hocks
In a 4-quart slow cooker, combine the soaked beans, ham hocks, water, chopped onion, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon onion powder.
Cover and cook on low heat for 8–10 hours, or until the beans are tender.
Step 3: Add Meat and Manbaby Sauce
Once the beans are cooked, remove the ham hocks from the slow cooker and let them cool slightly.
Cut the meat into small cubes, discarding the bones. Return the meat to the slow cooker.
Stir in the Manbaby Sauce, brown sugar, nutmeg, cloves, remaining garlic powder, remaining onion powder, and hot pepper sauce (if using).
Step 4: Final Cook
Increase the slow cooker to high heat. Cover and cook for an additional 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is heated through and flavors meld together.
Serving Suggestions
Serve hot as a hearty main course or as a flavorful side dish alongside cornbread, rice, or steamed vegetables.
Drizzle extra Manbaby Sauce on top for added tangy sweetness.
Manbaby Tip
Hot sauces like Tabasco are a smart way to flavor foods without adding too much sodium. Check the nutrition labels—Tabasco, for example, contains only 26 mg of sodium per 5-7 drops.
